On December 1, 2020, Charleston Police Department Patrolman Cassie Marie Johnson was grievously
injured in the line of duty while protecting the city she loved. After saving multiple lives through
the generous gift of organ donation, Cassie's end of watch was observed on December 3, 2020. She
was just 28 years old. Prior to joining the CPD, Cassie was a Humane Officer for the City of
Charleston and worked closely with the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA). Cassie was
deeply passionate about providing love, care, and safe harbor for the lost, abandoned, and
mistreated animals in our community. Cassie's Fur-ever Friends was developed to honor Cassie's
sacrifice and carry on her legacy of compassion by continuing to care for the animals she held
so dear.
